Travel Arrangements

Singapore, along with all the major ports in the world, is probably one of the easiest places to get to and to get around. Flights from all over the world come into Singapore on a frequent and regular basis. Flights would definitely be the easiest way to get to the little island at the tip of the Malayan Peninsula - except maybe if you are from Malaysia, where you could drive, take a coach or a train across the strait.

For those who are interested, they could always take the Eastern and Oriental Express from Bangkok to Singapore. This luxurious train trip will bring you to explore the exotic scenery of the Malayan Peninsula. In style.

If you arrive by flight, a taxi ride from the airport to the hotel will cost around S$20. (The current exchange rate is around US$1 = S$1.80).  There is a surcharge of 50% when you take a taxi after midnight in Singapore and a S$3.50 airport surcharge.  If you arrive during the peak traffic hours, there is a small amount of road toll called the ERP (Electronic Road Pricing) as you enter the central business district area.  The hotel for the conference is located inside the CBD area.

There is also an MRT (Mass Rapid Transit - train system) station at the airport (Terminal 2) which will bring you to "City Hall MRT station". If your flight arrives at Terminal 1, there is a 'skytrain' that will take you to Terminal 2 - for free.

If you take the MRT from Terminal 2 of the airport, you need to change train at Tanah Merah MRT Station.  You do this by just walking across the platform.  The train you are taking will be heading West towards “Boon Lay” Terminal and you will get off at "City Hall" MRT station. The hotel is a 15 min walk away from the MRT station through an underground stretch of shops.  The MRT train is air-conditioned, and it may not be such a bad idea if you travel light. The cost of the ride is around S$2.
