Travel Arrangement

Singapore, along with all the major ports in the world, is probably one of the easiest places to get to and to get around. Flights from all over the world come into Singapore on a frequent and regular basis. Flights would definitely be the easiest way to get to the little island at the tip of the Malayan Peninsula - except if you are from Malaysia, where you could practically drive or take a train across the strait.

Of course for those who would like the experience, you could always take the Eastern and Oriental Express from Bangkok to Singapore. This luxurious train trip will bring you to explore the exotic scenery of the Malayan Peninsula. In style.

If you arrive by flight, a taxi ride from the airport to the hotel will cost around S$20. (The current exchange rate is around US$1 = S$1.80).  There is a surcharge of 50% when you take a taxi after midnight in Singapore and a S$3.50 airport surcharge.  If you arrive during the peak traffic hours, there is a small amount of road toll called the ERP as you enter the CBD area.  The hotel for the conference is located inside the CBD area.

There is also an MRT (Mass Rapid Transit - train system) station at the airport (Terminal 2) which will bring you to "Orchard MRT station". If your flight arrives at Terminal 1, there is a 'skytrain' that will take you to Terminal 2 - for free.

If you take the MRT from Terminal 2 of the airport, you will have to change train at "City Hall" MRT station to the train heading for "Jurong East". You then have to get off at "Orchard" station and the hotel is a 20 min walk away. The MRT train is air-conditioned, and it may not be such a bad idea if you travel light. The cost of the ride is around S$2.
