Updates from Competition
8 July: 3rd/4th placing for 2-vs-2
The competition has finally ended. Lady Luck was not on our side in a close match and we lost the 3rd/4th place playoff. We finished fourth out of 23 teams in the 2-vs-2 event. Overall, it was a good performance by the team and we can be proud of our achievements. The team members will carry the experience gained from this competition with them and improve the performance of the robots next year. See you at RoboCup 2008!
7 July: Q-Finals/Semi-finals of 2-vs-2
Team RO-PE delivered the goods once again in the quarter-finals and managed to defeat B-Human (Germany) to reach the semi-finals, where we met an in-form defending champion Team Vision from Japan. Despite putting up a tough fight, we were outclassed by our opponent and failed to reach the final. But we are satisfied with our performance and now have a shot at finishing third, as we take on Fumanoid (Germany) in the third/fourth place playoff tomorrow.
6 July: Technical Challenge
It was a challenging event and many robots were unable to achieve success in this event. In the end, only three teams managed to get some points. We failed to gain any points but valuable experience was nonetheless gained from it.
5 July: Day 3 of 2-vs-2 matches
Team RO-PE continued its fine form to win our final two matches and qualify as the group winners! We finished the round-robin stages with 4 wins and 1 loss. The quarterfinals will be played on Sat and the semi-final spot is within our grasp. We will continue to work hard. For tomorrow, teams will divert from the 2-vs-2 event to participate in the technical challenge where there are 3 events: passing, dribbling and obstacle avoidance.
4 July: Day 2 of 2-vs-2 matches
There was only one match today and we managed to win it. With only two matches to go, it's a three-way fight in our group to qualify as the top two-placed teams. We aim to win our final two matches to ensure qualification.
3 July: Day 1 of 2-vs-2 matches
A day of mixed fortunes for us as we beat RoboErectus (Singapore) 1-0 but lost to ZJU Dancer (China) by the same scoreline. Inexperience cost us in the first match against ZJU but we recovered well to deliver the goods in the second match. With our other opponents in the group drawing their games, our win still places us in contention for qualification into the finals as the top two-placed teams in our group.
1 July - 2 July: Setup
Teams have begun setting up their robots in the main competition hall, which is the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center (CRC). It is a giant sports complex with an indoor swimming pool, basketball courts and gym. The competition has grown bigger this year, with up to 22 teams participating in the humanoid category. One can expect competition to be even more intense this year. The round robin 2-vs-2 event kicks off tomorrow and we are scheduled to play two matches. The team is truly hyped up!
28 June - 30 June: Preparation
Our team has arrived in Atlanta! The city that gave the world Coca-Cola is truly an enchanting city. Atlanta is twelve hours behind Singapore time and some jet lag has crept in. Still, the team took time out to soak in the sights at the famous attractions such as the World of Coca-Cola, Centennial Olympic Park and Stone Mountain. We are in the midst of unpacking. The next two days will be the setup days for the participants. The actual competition will start from Tues (3 July).
