RoboCup 2008 China
12th July 2008 : Arrival
Today we begin our quest for ROBOCUP 2008! We took an early flight to Shanghai Pu Dong International airport, hoping to assemble the robots that afternoon. However, some unforeseen problems delayed our plans. As a result we have a late dinner and spent the rest of the night assembling the robots.

13th to 15th July : Setting up and Calibration
Our first day at SUZHOU International EXPO with our ROBOTS! Today we get to use the field to calibrate our robots for our event, adjust them to see under the competition lighting and perfect the motion of the robot. Our first day of calibration ended in frustration. Hopefully, we will do beter for the next few days.
ROPE Team Calibrating Robots
After two days of calibration, our robots seems to be in good shape and are all ready for the match tomorrow. Go go Team ROPE.
16th July : First day of 3v3
We had two matches today. We won 8:0 and 10:0 against UofM Humanoids and JEAP respectively! Our score line had greatly exceeded our expectations. The new ROPE VI had proven its worth. However, we believe that ROPE VI has yet to reach its maximum potential. Well, we have 3 more matches to go to get into the quarter finals. All the best for TEAM RO-PE!

17th July : Second day of 3v3
We are through to the quarter finals! Our first match in the morning is against TH-MOS, followed by Pumas UNAM and Bogobots later in the afternoon. We managed to win all the matches with flying colours. However a lot of technical faults surfaced during the games. Hanging robots and fraying wires are just some of the problems we faced. There is even one time when all 3 of our robots have to be carried out due to technical failure. Luckily we are able to solve these issues during the half time breaks to bring our robots back into fighting condition. We are looking forward to the our Technical challenge event tomorrow.

18th July : Technical challenge
Technical challenge consists of 3 events, namely obstacles avoidance, passing and dribbling. The robot is required to complete all 3 events within 30 minutes. After many hours of hard work, Jiayi's obstacle avoidance program work like a gem! We cleared the obstacles within 21 seconds! Well done! However, we didn't make it past the other two events as our camera failed. It is a big disappointment as we fail to revive the camera in time. We must solve the camera problem before our quarter finals!

19th July : Third day of 3v3 (Quarter finals)
Goal goal goal!! Team ROPE 8:0 Fumanoids ! We are able to beat the team that won against us last year. The taste of vengeance is sweet. Sadly, our dream of entering the finals is shattered by Team VisIon from Osaka after we lost to them in the semi final. Team Vision is one of the strongest team. We did put up a tough fight against them. It was really an honor to play against such a strong team and we have gained valuable experience through the match.

20th July : Fourth day of 3v3 (3rd and 4th placing)
Finally we have come to the last match of our journey. Today, we will be playing against CIT BRAINS to compete for the 3rd placing in the competition. Luck is not on our side and we lost. Howeever, we are still overall 4th in the league which is still not a bad result. We believe that we can do better next year with the experience we had learned this year. See you all in Austria in 2009!
